Last year, May Johnston sang at the SG50 Gala Ball and almost brought the house down with her power packed voice. Her performance was definitely one of the highlights of the evening. May will be back for an encore performance at the Winter Wonderland Ball on 6 August.
May was born in Singapore and growing up there, dreamt of one day becoming a professional singing artiste. She left Singapore in the 1980s to pursue this dream in Australia. Today May is a professional singer and recording artiste. She performs many genres of music from jazz, soul, funk, rock and roll to top 40’s music. May has performed in venues across Melbourne as well as internationally in UK, France, Spain, New Caledonia and Singapore. May also tours with her band Deep Street Soul signed to UK label Freestyle Records. The band recently launched their new album, ‘Come Alive’ featuring May’s power vocals. Besides performing, May is also a vocal coach and enjoys most working with talented young people.
