FAREWELL AND CHARITY BUFFET (7 JUNE)
TASTE OF SINGAPORE CAFÉ CLAYTON
When Merlion Club heard that ‘Taste of Singapore’ café in Clayton was closing shop, we felt that it was only appropriate that we gathered Singaporeans for one last eat-out to farewell Singaporean café owners Ida and Abbas. Taste of Singapore has been serving authentic malay muslim food to hungry Singaporeans for a number of years and to say that we are sorry to see it go is a real understatement. If there was one place we would recommend for authentic and great tasting nasi briyani, chicken merah, satay and mee rebus, this was the place.
Thus on Sunday 7 June the last day of business of the café, a group of 40 Singaporeans and friends gathered for an ‘all you can eat’ charity buffet at the café for the last time! Though the weather outside was chilly, the café was definitely warm and cosy. With the sweet aroma of delicious food and camaraderie of mates, there really was no better way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon than among friends and food. All proceeds from the lunch were donated by Ida and Abbas to the Malay Building Fund charity in Melbourne.
We wish Ida and Abbas a well earned rest and relaxing holiday back in Singapore where they will be spending time with family and friends, and also celebrating SG50. Merlion Club wishes them all the best in the new phase of their life and hopefully, another Singaporean restaurant venture in the near future!
